The unlearning phase
When Constellation UI was first introduced, one of the biggest discussions in the Pega ecosystem was around unlearning and relearning Pega UI development.
For years many of us were comfortable with sections, harnesses, controls and the traditional UI model. Constellation changed that mindset completely.
And then came the next challenge. What happens when a business requirement goes beyond the standard Constellation design patterns or the available out-of-the-box components?
That is where Custom DX Components came into the picture.
Custom DX Components were not easy in the beginning
To be honest, creating Custom DX Components was hard at the start, especially for traditional Pega developers with limited or no React experience.
I still remember exploring Custom DX Components while creating my Constellation course, A Journey to the Center of Pega Constellation, back in early 2023. At that time Constellation was still relatively new and only a very small number of customers had started adopting it.

Building a Custom DX Component felt very different from regular low-code Pega development. You had to set up the development environment, understand React, work with the component SDK, write code outside the normal Pega studios, package it and then bring it back into the application.
I remember thinking,
We are moving towards ultra-low-code development, but when we need a custom UI component we suddenly go back to setting up an IDE and writing code almost from scratch? It did not exactly feel low-code.
A lot has changed since then
Fast forward a few years and the picture is very different.
Constellation itself has matured significantly. Pega also opened up GitHub repositories with reusable Custom DX Component – constellation-ui-gallery examples that developers can pull, learn from and extend based on their requirements.
That was already a very welcome change.
We also started seeing partners and service companies building their own libraries of reusable DX components, which made the overall development experience much more practical.
And now comes the AI wave.
With tools like Claude Code, AI-assisted coding and the whole vibe coding movement, writing frontend code has suddenly become much easier than we could have imagined a few years ago.
This made me think for some time. Custom DX Components are probably one of the best areas where AI-assisted development can make a real difference.
Instead of manually creating everything from scratch, you could describe the requirement, generate the initial React component, refine it, test it and integrate it with Constellation.
And maybe at some point this experience becomes even more integrated directly into Pega development itself.
Now comes the interesting part
There is an upcoming webinar specifically around this topic. Extending Constellation UI with AI.
It brings together Pega UI experts from Pegasystems and the FusionAIX team to explore how AI can help with extending the Constellation experience.
The session looks at using generative AI tools to quickly build custom DX components, both for out-of-the-box Constellation UI and for use with the Pega Front-End SDKs covering React, Angular and Web Components. There are live demonstrations of AI coding assistants generating component code, and a section on the limitations of AI-generated code around accessibility and security.
One thing to note before you register. This is positioned as an advanced session. It assumes you already know the material from the earlier sessions in the series on DX Components and Constellation SDKs. If you are completely new to Custom DX Components, watch those first.
For anyone working with Constellation, Custom DX Components or AI-assisted development, I think this is going to be a very interesting session.
I am particularly curious to see how far vibe coding for Constellation DX Components has already progressed and where Pega expects this space to go next.
